Job Description: Director at Focal Point Strategy Group

As a Director, you will work directly with clients and lead or co-lead one to two client engagements and projects, setting strategic visions and ensuring the delivery of high-quality communications solutions that align with client objectives. You will also contribute to team leadership, content development, and media relations.

Responsibilities

Client & Project Leadership

  • Manage client engagements and projects from concept to execution.

  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor.

  • Establish strategic visions and tactical plans for client projects and deliverables.

Team Oversight & Content Management

  • Lead client teams, fostering collaboration and accountability.

  • Oversee and provide feedback on content creation, including reviewing and editing materials from team members such as Associates and Interns.

  • Mentor team members, offering guidance and input on performance.

  • Ensure all team deliverables meet quality standards and client expectations.

Media Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with key media contacts, including bookers, producers, and reporters.

  • Secure and manage media coverage across local and national print, broadcast, and digital platforms.

Strategic Planning

  • Contribute to the development of comprehensive communications strategies and project plans.

  • Guide internal processes to drive client success and meet project objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in client-facing roles within a communications, PR, or marketing agency.

  • Expertise in media relations, digital communications, and reputation management.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence across all levels.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Strategic thinker with a proactive, solution-focused mindset.

  • Experience with project management tools and analytics platforms is a plus.

Associate

Job Title: Associate

The Associate plays a pivotal role in supporting the execution of strategic communication initiatives across various client accounts. This position requires strong writing, research, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Content Development

  • Craft a wide range of communication materials, including press releases, PowerPoint presentations, social media content, memos, fact sheets, and speeches.

  • Develop and refine talking points, opinion editorials, and other key messaging materials for clients.

Research & Strategy

  • Own components of research projects that inform strategic communications plans and client deliverables.

  • Provide creative input and actionable insights to support client initiatives.

  • Build and maintain comprehensive media and influencer target lists tailored to client goals.

Media Relations

  • Conduct media outreach and build relationships with reporters across print, broadcast, and digital platforms.

  • Monitor media coverage across all formats, identifying relevant news for clients and potential opportunities for engagement.

  • Successfully drive media coverage by pitching compelling stories on behalf of clients.

Client Support & Team Coordination

  • Assist in managing client relationships, including organizing calls, maintaining agendas, and ensuring smooth workflow between clients and internal teams.

  • Monitor and report on project progress, ensuring deadlines are met and deliverables are of the highest quality.

  • Contribute to new business proposals and presentations, providing research and creative ideas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.

  • 1-3 years of experience in a communications, PR, or marketing role (agency experience is a plus).

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with attention to detail.

  • Familiarity with media relations and a passion for staying updated on industry trends.

  • Excellent research and analytical skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); experience with media monitoring and analytics tools is a plus.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
